Are You Thankful?

Psalm 9: 1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

It was approaching Thanksgiving and Dave's family was together. He was in the construction supply business and business was good. In response to hearing about how well things were going, Dave's daughter said "We sure have a lot to be thankful for!" But instead of agreeing, Dave snapped "I worked hard for all of this!"

Dave was a regular in church, a good moral person, we don't know if he was a Christian but he believed in the existence of God. But he didn't realize, or perhaps he had forgotten or maybe he was blinded to the fact that everything he had, everything he could do all that he had accomplished was from God. He had been placed in history with all the right factors and the right gifts and abilities to make his success possible. Even so, at any time God could say "no more." He worked hard -- but where did he get his work ethic? He worked hard - but millions, probably billions of people around the globe work much harder and have much less.

Paul wrote to the church: "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought."

This month we will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, a day set aside for the nation to give thanks for of the many blessings we enjoy. Unfortunately, for many people that one day will be the only time during the year they give thanks. Many others, like Dave will not even be grateful for that one day.

The Psalmist says. “I will give thanks with ALL MY HEART” meaning he will give thanks with his total being. If we are truly thankful with our total being, then our thanksgiving will not be limited to one day but will exhibit itself in every minute of every day of our lives.

So the question is, “Are you truly thankful for the many blessings you enjoy?” Or do you feel you have no reason to be thankful because you have earned everything you have received and therefore are entitled to your blessings?

The writer of the Psalm gives a simple test by which we can gauge our thankfulness. He says that because he is thankful with all his heart, “I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”

If we are truly thankful for the many blessings that God has bestowed on us, we will spent time telling others about His magnificent love.. Are you doing that? Are you sharing his Word with others? Are you truly thankful?
